A client contacted us asking for some help with the recovery of Exodus wallet password. After infamous attack on Atomic Wallet back in June 2023, many users have moved their crypto to another wallet and our client was one of them. He could not remember the password for Exodus Desktop wallet and seed phrase that he wrote down did not work. After getting over the legal formalities, our team has set to work.
Exodus wallet uses Scrypt encryption for wallet data and the BIP39 standard protocol for processing and working with seed phrases. Since both defunct seed phrases of a client and all words used in BIP39 were known seed tempering was an obvious choice. We have verified the words in the client's seed phrase and they did match the exodus seed word list; if not the words then it must be the order in which they were written down is wrong. Unlike other wallets, Exodus needs only two words to match during the seed backup verification process, meaning people won’t ever know something is wrong with the seed they written down until they actually use it. By using the right tools we have managed to find the correct order and have recovered access to the client's funds!
While writing down seed phrase make sure all words are spelled correctly and are in the correct order. At Recovery Wizards, we can help to restore defunct seed and work even with partial seed phrases.
